Earth Hero, Inc., a charitable/educational 501C(3) tax exempt organization, is dedicated to educating consumers about the human and environmental costs of the products they buy on a daily basis through its affiliate organizations, Peacecraft and Just Cashews. Through its affiliate programs, Earth Hero provides consumers the option to shop responsibly by purchasing products that are made without exploiting the planet or its people. Earth Hero exists to create a sustainable future by promoting resource conservation and fair trade in order to fight the root causes of environmental destruction and poverty around the world. Volunteer
Welcome to our Volunteer Page. We hope that the following information gives you a clear picture of volunteering at Peacecraft.
One full-time and two part-time employees manage Peacecraft. Four part-time UNM work-study students work as customer service representatives and to assist the three managers in the many duties that a non-profit, retail store can create! Our volunteer staff is the life-blood of this organization, and we are very grateful to all of our volunteers for assisting us in promoting Fair Trade in the greater Albuquerque area. Please read further as to the many volunteer opportunities we offer at Peacecraft.
Who can volunteer at Peacecraft?
Anyone 18 years of age or older, who is interested in the promotion of Fair Trade Business practices.
What is the job (volunteer) description?
Primarily our volunteers are customer service representatives who assist our customers in the selection of Fair Trade items in our Nob Hill retail store. You will greet customers, answer the phones and assist one of our four work-study students in running the front end of the store. Our volunteers assist in receiving orders, stocking and straightening shelves and keeping the store neat and clean.
Other contributions of time that we can utilize:
Maintenance and repair
Off-site sales (at churches and community events)
In-store events: Shop and Stroll and other in-store events (Please check the website calendar for scheduled events.)
Fundraising
Marketing
Grant Writing
Information Technology
Data Entry
Taking recyclable materials to a recycling center
Large cleaning tasks
Bi-lingual skills (Spanish and English) to assist our Buyer
When? (Store hours and shift times)
Our store hours are: Monday-Saturday, 11am-6pm, and Sunday, Noon-5pm.
Daily shifts are: Monday-Saturday: 11am-2:30pm; 2:30pm-6pm and Sunday, Noon-2:30pm, and 2:30pm-5:00pm.
Where?
3215 Central Ave., NE. Our beautiful store is located in Historic Nob Hill area, across from Kelley's Brewer and Cold Stone Creamery.
How often?
We ask a minimum of 2 shifts per month, 7 hours a month. However, you are welcome to volunteer as often as you like.
Why volunteer at Peacecraft?
Assisting the Peacecraft staff in promoting Fair Trade, through educating our customers on the relevancy and necessity of Fair Trade business practices, assists hundreds of craft artisans and food producers in the developing world enjoy a living wage. You have the opportunity to meet and work with others who are passionate about Fair Trade and decreasing hunger and poverty across the globe.
Perks for Volunteering:
Every volunteer is given Peacecraft Bucks in exchange for any contribution of time to Peacecraft. Peacecraft Bucks (PC Bucks) are worth $1.00 each, and all volunteers receive one PC Buck for each hour of contribution of time to Peacecraft. Using the PC bucks allows the volunteer to purchase any item in the store up to 50% off!! EXAMPLE: Lovely scarf costs $20.00 - you give us $10.00 real money and 10 PC Bucks, and the scarf is yours. We are Non-Profit, and do not charge tax.

Fundraising
Peacecraft offers a fun and unique fundraising opportunity for your non-profit group! We invite your school, youth group or club to schedule a shopping day at Peacecraft! Simply spread the word to all your members, family and friends, come in and shop our selection of gorgeous global crafts, and Peacecraft will donated 10% of the sales total from your members purchases back to your group! We have hosted groups as diverse at the Newman Center Disaster Relief Volunteers, Sandia High School Marching Band, and Water for People! Work Study Program
Peacecraft employs University of New Mexico Work-Study students for part-time work at Peacecraft. Our Work-Study Students assist the three Peacecraft managers in managing the store, particularly the front-end of the store. The students work in cooperation with our volunteer staff.
Requirements:
Student must be Work-Study qualified through the UNM Work-Study program and through the UNM Financial Aid Department.
